Shooting the Rock in Iraq
I loved this piece at True Hoops about pick-up basketball games played by U.S. troops in Iraq. It's not sexy, or dramatic, but I love the attention to detail and the love of the game - the idea that the troops built the backboard themselves, and that the rim was made, not bought, and the fact that we learn what pick-up rules they play under. Good stuff.

Free Throw Record
If I had to guess, I would have estimated the world record for consecutive free throws made atmaybe something over a hundred, but not by much. The actual record?
2,750.
I simply can't compute it.

Makes Puppies Look Like Slackers
I have pretty much zero interest in hockey, and one of the things that I dislike about the sport most is the ridiculous fighting. No other sport tolerates fights (except boxing), so why does hockey? It's just lame and pathetic. And yet. This is easily the cutest thing ever.

A First?

Looking through the NBA page of my local paper I noticed that the two highest-scoring players in the league play for the same team. With Allen Iverson's trade to the Denver Nuggets, the Nuggets have the highest scorer (Carmelo Anthony) and the second-highest scorer (Iverson). That has to be the first time that's happened, right?
