Confusion

As the Writer's Strike keeps chugging along, with no end in sight, I continue to support the writers, and wish them well. But as the late show hosts returned last night, one question did occur to me. Why is the WGA asking SAG members to boycott Leno and Conan? It's not as if they are using scabs, or crossing picket lines. They are doing their shows without writers, with the exception of writing their own material, which the WGA has allowed them to do. So why the boycott? What am I missing?

Until Whenever

Don't know about Conan or Jimmy, but it sounds like Jay broke the strike rules and turned himself (and his wife) into a scab.

Thanks for the link - I was taking Leno at his word that the rules allowed members to write material for themselves. And that's the first time I've been to Finke's site - some pretty nasty commenting there!

This is why the agreement Worldwide Pants for Letterman and Craig Ferguson made with WGA mattered; the writers can go back to work. Whereas Jay, Conan, et al. should be leaning heavier on interviews and musical guests. Jay's gaffe MAY make it harder for him to book guests in the future, but who knows.
